The home

A north shore house with room to spread out

Lani Hanalei Hale sits in Princeville, the home Gary spent ten years looking for: views, serenity, and plenty of space for family. He is your host.

Windows open to the mountains and waterfalls. From the upstairs lanai, the view reaches Hanalei Bay. The ʻOhana has one bedroom, plus its own living area, kitchen, and bathroom, so a family can spread out and still be together.

How the house is arranged

  • Five bedrooms: the Bahama, Pineapple, and Cottage rooms, the ʻOhana bedroom, and the Lani Hanalei Suite.
  • The Lani Hanalei Suite is the only upstairs bedroom, with mountain, waterfall, and ocean views and its own private bathroom.
  • Four bathrooms. The Bahama, Pineapple, ʻOhana, and Lani Hanalei Suite each have their own.
  • Two kitchens: the main kitchen, and the ʻOhana kitchen.
  • Three living areas, a study, and a children's reading area.
  • Five lanais. The upstairs lanai looks out to Hanalei Bay.
  • Mountain, waterfall, and Hanalei Bay views.
  • A garage, with beach toys.

House rules

A few things we ask

  • The minimum stay is 4 nights.
  • Up to 10 people, including infants. Please list everyone. The rate is based on that number.
  • The person who books must be 21 or older and is responsible for the stay.
  • No smoking indoors. No pets. No parties or events unless Gary agrees first. Please rinse sand off before you come inside.
  • Visitors and day guests need approval ahead of time.
  • We always keep at least one open night between a checkout and the next check-in.
  • Half the rental confirms the dates. The balance is due 30 days before arrival, or the full amount if you book within 30 days.
  • Security is a refundable $1,500 deposit, or a $29 damage protection plan through CSA Travel Protection, which covers up to $3,000.
  • Changes after confirmation are $100. A deposit may be forfeited if you cancel. There is no refund if you cancel within 45 days of arrival. A refund is only if the dates are re-booked at the same rate, less 15% of the deposits paid. Travel insurance is recommended.
  • Please sign the rental agreement within 24 hours to hold the reservation. Your rental agreement is sent with your booking confirmation.

When can we arrive, and when do we leave?

Check-in is after 3:00 pm. Check-out is at 10:00 am.

How do we get in?

The house has keyless entry. Door codes are emailed no later than one day before you arrive.

How many people can stay?

Up to 10, including infants. Please list everyone. The rate is based on that number. The person who books must be 21 or older and is the responsible guest.

Can we bring a pet?

No pets, please. No smoking indoors, and no parties or events unless Gary has agreed ahead of time. Please rinse sand off before you come inside.

Can friends come by?

Visitors and day guests need Gary's approval ahead of time.

Is there a minimum stay?

Yes. The minimum stay is 4 nights.

Why is there an open night between stays?

We always keep at least one open night between a checkout and the next check-in, so the house can be prepared for you. The calendar already holds that night.

How does payment work?

A 50% deposit confirms the stay. The balance is due 30 days before arrival. If you book within 30 days, the full amount is due to confirm. Gary sends the payment link after he approves the request.

What about a security deposit?

You can leave a refundable $1,500 security deposit, or choose a $29 damage protection plan through CSA Travel Protection, which covers up to $3,000.

Where should we buy groceries?

Foodland is close to the house at 5-4280 Kuhio Highway in Princeville. Near the airport in Lihue: Costco at 4300 Nuhou Street, Safeway at 4454 Nuhou Street, and Walmart at 3-3300 Kuhio Highway.

What if something goes wrong during the stay?
